Geometry types

Define locations and shapes

A key feature of CausewayOne Asset Management is the ability to visualise your assets and tasks on the map.

Therefore, all items have a standard Geometry attribute. It can store coordinate data that describes the item's location and shape. When viewing an item's details, the Map section lets you view and edit its geometry. Use the Geometry Editor to draw the geometry directly on the map or import coordinate data from elsewhere.

Several types of geometry data can be stored, ranging from a single point to complex polygons. The item's design determines which of these types are allowed. By default, all geometry types are allowed on custom designs/interfaces created by your organisation.

To limit the allowed geometry types of a design/interface (including none at all), see Edit the design or interface.

Note

You can add extra Geometry attributes to a design/interface.

Basemap alignment

In CausewayOne Asset Management, all geometry is saved using the WGS84 Lat/Lng (EPSG:4326) coordinate system.

If the active basemap uses another coordinate system, item geometry is automatically transformed (by us or the map service) to keep things in proportion. As a result, item geometry may appear slightly misaligned with the basemap.

Therefore, switch to the most relevant basemap before editing an item's geometry, so you can draw directly over the basemap's features as needed.
