Overview

The Permissions manager allows you to manage all your permissions requirements for user groups within Alloy.

Understanding the Permissions manager

When you work with permissions you are presented with the Permissions editor in the centre of your workspace. The editor provides you with a graphical view of your permission settings for the selected group.

Selected Group name

When you select a group, the group name is displayed at the top of the manager window. The settings made in the permissions manager are only applied to the selected group.

Category column

The Category column lists all the areas where you can configure permissions. There are no permission settings associated directly with each category. Selecting a category displays all the objects within that category in the Objects column.

There are five areas within the system where you can manage permissions:

Within each area you can set the permissions to manage user access, for example, attributes within a design or interface or visibility of layers.

Objects column

The Objects column lists all the objects for the selected category, for example the design category will list all the designs on the system.

When you select an object the permissions settings for the selected group appear in the Permissions column.

Attributes column

The Attributes column is displayed when there are attributes associated with the selected object, this applies to designs and interfaces. The column is not displayed, for example when you select the Card, Layers or Meshes category, as they do not have attributes associated with them.

When you select an attribute, the permissions settings appear in the Permissions column (this applies only to design and interface objects). The colour of the attribute icons reflect the status of the permission settings for the attribute.

Grey - indicates that the attribute permissions are currently disabled.
Red - indicates that the attribute is totally restricted from users in the group.
Yellow - indicates that the attribute permissions are enabled as Read only.
Green - indicates that attribute permissions are enabled as Read/Write.

Attributes can have default permissions inherited from the object they are associated with, usually a design or interface. You can override the settings for each attribute individually.

Permissions column

The Permissions column displays the state of the permissions for the currently selected object or attribute. You can use the buttons within this column to change or override permission settings. Selected permissions are indicated by a tick and the colour of the button.

Disabled permissions are greyed out.

Note

Some attribute permissions cannot be changed directly, refer to [Group permissions for designs] and interfaces for more information.

Object filter

This button appears at the top of the objects column and allows you to filter the list of objects as follows:

  • All - this displays all objects for the selected category.
  • With permissions - this displays all objects that have had permissions set directly or indirectly on them.
  • With permission overrides - this displays only the objects that have had permissions set directly on them.

Search field

The Category, Object and Attributes columns each have a search field at the top that can be used to perform a partial search to reduce the list within a column or for a specific item search within a column.

Save button

When you have finished configuring the permission settings for the selected group use the Save button to apply the settings.

Selection

The selected category, design or attribute is highlighted and the icon changes to a tick.
