Defects

Flag potentially faulty assets

Use defects to record any possible issues with your organisation's assets. An issue may be noticed by a worker during a visit, reported by a member of the public, or triggered automatically by sensor readings.

It's easy to view defects as items on the map, which can be filtered according to their status. For a more detailed examination, perform a query in the Data Explorer to view a curated list of defects and their attribute data.

Defects are one of three customisable activity types that are available to optimise your asset maintenance.

Note

If you're unable to view or manage defects, your user account may lack the required permissions.

Define your defect types

Before you can create defects, your organisation must first create defect designs to represent each defect type.

Defect designs automatically inherit standard attributes from the Defects interface (e.g. Status, Reported Date). You can add any number of custom attributes as needed.

Some modules include ready-made defect designs for common service areas.

Create defects

Once your defect types are defined, you can start creating defect items!

By default, new defects are created for a chosen parent asset. Alternatively, you can choose a parent activity instead (e.g. to record a defect arising from an inspection), or create an isolated defect with no parent at all.

You can use workflows to automate the creation of defects in response to events.

Acting on defects

After a defect has been created, you can examine its data and decide what to do next. If details are scarce, you may wish to schedule an inspection to verify the asset's condition. Alternatively, if there's sufficient evidence (e.g. photos are attached), you could instead create a job to perform any work that needs doing.

You can also use workflows to automate what happens next, e.g. send an email when a defect is created.
